At Potential Forge, we use the iceberg analogy to explain how personality assessments impact job performance and behavior. Just like an iceberg, there are things that are visible above the water-line, and things that are hidden below.
Above the water-line, we have “What You Do” and “How You Do It”. These are the business results and observed behaviors that people can see. But below the water-line, there’s “Why You Do It” – the personality traits that drive behavior, but may not be immediately apparent.
Our assessments help individuals develop strategic self-awareness by understanding their work style traits, core values, and derailment risks. By managing their behavior and leveraging their strengths, they can increase their success in the workplace.
Our assessments also help organizations by identifying the characteristics that impact an individual’s job performance and fit within a particular role, team, or organizational culture. By understanding these factors, organizations can make better hiring decisions and create a more productive and harmonious workplace.
At Potential Forge, we believe that self-awareness is the key to unlocking your full potential. Our assessments are designed to help you discover the “Why” behind your behavior, so you can achieve greater success in your career.
Our Personality assessments, including personality profiling and cognitive assessment , are all compatible with mobile devices.
However, our cognitive bility assessments are designed for completion on a PC or laptop. Elements, especially Numerical, heavily rely on drop-downs which may render differently on tablets or mobile devices and potentially disadvantage users.
If you do choose to complete an cognitive ability assessment on a tablet or mobile phone, you will receive a warning that this is not recommended, along with information about alternative devices to use. To ensure the best testing experience, we recommend taking Ability assessments on a PC or laptop.
If you’re waiting to complete Potential Forge psychometric assessments for a job application but have not received your login details, we’re here to help. To get started, please contact the company responsible for managing the assessment project.

The first things you could try is to clear the web browser cache and cookies, check to ensure that pop-up windows are not disabled, or use a different internet browser (e.g. instead of Internet Explorer use Chrome). If you are completing the assessments on a work computer, you can try a home computer instead if possible. If you still have issues you should contact the administrator with the company that requested completion of the online assessments and provide the following details: description of the issue, details of the device, internet browser details and ideally a screenshot of the webpage.
Great advice! Clearing the web browser cache and cookies, checking for disabled pop-up windows, and trying a different internet browser are all good initial troubleshooting steps. If those steps don’t work, contacting the administrator/company contact is the next step. Providing them with a clear description of the issue, device details, internet browser details, and a screenshot of the webpage can help them to diagnose and resolve the issue more quickly.
Keeping only one application/web browser open during the assessment helps to avoid any confusion or technical issues that may arise due to multiple open applications or web browsers. It also helps to ensure that the assessment is completed in a timely and efficient manner. It’s important to log out and close all other browser windows and tabs completely before starting the assessment to avoid any distractions or interruptions.
This means that there are still text fields that have not been read in Section 1. You need to check if all boxes in Section 1 are blue. If any are still white (unread), you need to go back to Section 1 and ensure all fields are marked as read. Once you have read all fields in Section 1, the assessments should then be available for you to complete in Section 2.
After registering for the practice tests, you can immediately proceed to complete the assessments. Additionally, an automatic email containing your login details will be sent to you by the system in case you lose your internet connection and need to log back in. However, if you have already completed the practice assessments, you may disregard this email.
At Potential Forge, we approach responses to our assessments with a unique perspective. We understand that individuals may not necessarily report their actual behavior, but rather convey how they want to be perceived – much like in a regular conversation. Our focus is not on the manner in which individuals respond to our items, but rather on what their responses can predict. For instance, a person who responds “True” to the item “I take a different way home from work every night” is likely to be creative and adventurous. It is this predictive value that we are interested in, rather than the individual’s actual behavior. Our ultimate goal is to predict performance in a work setting, not to measure behavior.
The issue of whether individuals manipulate their responses on personality assessments, commonly known as “faking,” and how it may affect the accuracy of the results, is a topic of ongoing debate in personality research. At Potential Forge, we take this issue seriously and continually monitor response patterns to detect when respondents may be providing insincere answers to assessment items. Our aim is to prevent individuals from intentionally presenting themselves in a false or overly positive manner, which is known as “faking good.” By doing so, we strive to maintain the validity and reliability of our assessments.
Interpreting the scores on the Potential Forge Personality Profiling and Cognitive Ability Assessment requires considering the individual’s current job context and future aspirations. It is important to note that there is no one-size-fits-all ideal score or personality profile. An individual’s assessment results are likely to reveal both strengths and potential areas for improvement. To gain the most value from the assessment results, it is recommended that participants take the following steps:
1. Schedule a meeting with a coach certified by Potential Forge to discuss the potential implications of the results.
2. Reflect on the insights gained from the assessment experience.
3. Use this information to support ongoing personal and professional development.
At Potential Forge, we recognize the importance of collecting comprehensive normative data to ensure that our assessments provide accurate and reliable results. Our Personality Profiling assessments are normed on a sample of over 120,000 working adults, while our Cognitive Ability Assessment is normed on a sample of over 50,000 working adults. These large sample sizes allow us to accurately represent a cross-section of the current workforce and provide reliable and valid assessment results to our clients.
According to research, personality is relatively stable within individuals, and significant shifts in scores on the Personality Profiling and Cognitive Ability Test are rare. While an individual’s scores may fluctuate slightly over time, this is often due to careless responding or increased self-awareness about the scores. Given that personality is stable, and that Potential Forge maintains norms to reflect current functioning, there is generally no need for individuals to re-take the assessments.
However, some organizations may choose to implement a retest policy based on situational variables specific to their assessment application. If you require further information about retesting, please contact your Potential Forge representative.
Through collaborative research between Potential Forge and our partners, we have analyzed the differences in scale scores among different generations. Our researchers analyzed scale score differences between Baby Boomers (born 1946 – 1964), Generation X (born 1965 – 1977), and Generation Y (born 1978 – 1994). While the research revealed small generational differences in scale scores, these differences are not significant in practice. Therefore, at an individual level, one cannot assume anything about a person’s personality or value set based solely on their birth year.
As global business continues to expand, questions regarding cross-cultural similarities and differences are becoming more prevalent. While Potential Forge has observed small differences across languages, it is important to note that scores from multiple translations of a personality assessment can differ for reasons unrelated to cultural factors. As a result, Potential Forge refrains from making definitive claims about cultural differences when comparing results across multiple translations of the assessments. Recent research has shown that minor differences may exist on certain personality and value scales, with the largest differences occurring between Eastern and Western cultures, as suggested by Hogan’s data. However, overall, the research suggests that defining the effects of culture on personality is a complex task, and while some differences may exist, our similarities appear to outweigh our differences.

Your system administrator has control over whether or not you can view your assessment results. Depending on their preferences, you may or may not be able to see your results after completing the assessments. If you are uncertain about whether you’ll be able to access your results, you should contact your system administrator for clarification. They will be able to provide you with more information on how to access your results, or explain the reasons why you may not be able to view them.
When you access the practice account for the Potential Forge assessment system, you’ll notice a block of red text in the top left corner of the screen, indicating that you’re in the practice account. This block should be visible throughout all pages of the assessments, providing you with the assurance that you’re in the right place.
The practice assessments are designed to look exactly like the live assessments, with the only difference being the block of red text in the practice account. Both the practice and live assessments begin with a set of practice questions to help you get familiar with the format and types of questions you can expect.
It is crucial to log out of the practice account before you log in for the live assessments. This ensures that you can log in with your own credentials and avoid any confusion or complications during the live assessments. By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to take the assessments with ease and confidence.
When you receive an email invitation to take the Potential Forge psychometric assessments, it should include all the details you need to prepare for them. To take these assessments, you will require a device that has an active internet connection.
For the Ability assessments, we highly recommend that you use a desktop or laptop computer with a keyboard and mouse. However, you can still complete them using only keyboard controls, such as using Tab to move between fields, Space bar to select a field, and Return to enter a response. For the Personality assessments, you can use a smaller device, like a tablet. There are no specific software requirements for any of the assessments.
However, for the Elements Numerical assessment, you will need to have a calculator, paper, and pencil or pen. Make sure you have all of these items at hand before you begin the assessment. With all of the necessary items and devices, you’ll be well-equipped to tackle the Potential Forge psychometric assessments with confidence.

But if you have multiple tests to take, you can tackle them separately if that suits you better. Our psychometric assessments are designed to measure your ability to analyze information and arrive at the correct answers within a given time frame. While we understand that the reasoning ability questions in our Elements test can be challenging, it’s important to note that our assessments are not intended to replicate normal working conditions or test IQ. The time limit for each question has been determined through extensive research and testing, and while it may be difficult, it is possible to respond within the time provided. Without a time limit, most people would eventually arrive at the correct answer regardless of their ability, which would compromise the accuracy of our assessments. However, we do offer extra time to ensure that individuals with disabilities have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
At Potential Forge, we recognize the importance of accommodating special requirements for candidates on a case-by-case basis. We strive to ensure that any necessary adjustments to tests are appropriate and fair for each individual. Depending on the candidate’s needs, various accommodations can be made, such as extending test times, increasing on-screen font size, or providing a scribe or reader during the test. It’s important to note that any adjustments made for candidates with disabilities must comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). If you have any special requirements, please contact the administrator or company contact listed in your assessment invitation email to discuss your needs.
You can relax in this situation, as your selected answer will be automatically submitted when the time runs out. If you have already chosen an answer but failed to click on the ‘Submit response’ button, the assessment system will consider your selected answer as submitted when the time expires. So, by simply making a selection, you can be assured that your answer will be counted.
In the event that you are unable to complete your assessment(s) before the deadline, we recommend that you reach out to the administrator who sent you the invitation to inquire about the possibility of an extension. They will be able to provide you with information on whether an extension is possible and if so, the steps you need to take to request one. Please note that extensions may not always be granted, so it is important to communicate with the administrator as soon as possible.
At Potential Forge, we take the integrity of our psychometric assessments very seriously. In order to ensure that the assessments are fair and unbiased for all candidates, and to maintain the security and confidentiality of our data, we do not provide the answers to any of the questions in our assessments. Our focus is on providing reliable and valid assessments to help organizations make informed decisions about their candidates or employees.
We understand the importance of keeping track of completed assessments and ensuring that nothing is missed. That’s why we have made it easy for you to check your progress and see what assessments you have completed. Once you have finished all assigned assessments, you will not receive a confirmation email. Instead, you can simply log in to your Potential Forge Assessment Dashboard to view your progress. If there are any outstanding assessments, they will be listed in Section 2 of the Dashboard. Once you have completed all assigned assessments, they will be listed in Section 3 of the Dashboard. This ensures that you can easily keep track of your progress and stay on top of your assessments.
At Potential Forge, our role is to provide psychometric assessments to clients and we are not typically involved in the feedback or recruitment process, unless explicitly agreed upon with the client. If candidates are seeking information regarding next steps or feedback on their assessment results, we recommend that they reach out to the administrator from the organization that initially sent them the assessment invitation. Our assessments are designed to provide valuable insights to employers and assist in making informed decisions during the recruitment process.
At Potential Forge, we do not set a pass/fail mark for our psychometric assessments. The company requesting the assessment may have their own benchmark score in mind, and we recommend reaching out to the administrator who sent the assessment invitation for more information. Our assessments are designed to provide valuable insights into a candidate’s abilities and personality traits, empowering employers to make informed decisions.
At Potential Forge, we take cheating in assessments seriously and have implemented innovative measures to combat it. Our online system is designed with adaptive ability tests, which use previous answers to select unique questions for each candidate, significantly reducing the risk of question and answer sharing. In addition, multiple versions of questions are available in our assessment system, further decreasing the likelihood of two individuals receiving the same test questions. For remote testing, we offer a verification test that is administered in a supervised setting at the company’s premises later in the recruitment process. By comparing the results of each test, we can easily identify inconsistent test performance, ensuring the integrity of the assessment process. At Potential Forge, we are committed to delivering accurate and reliable results that empower our clients to make informed decisions.
